Refuge de la Vogealle Hike

Hike from Sixt-Fer-A-Cheval to the Refuge de la Vogealle, France
In June, for the annual “high-adventure” weekend, the Scouts travelled to Sixt-fer-a-Cheval in France, where they then hiked up to the Refuge de Vogealle (stopping at Boret for lunch) and stayed overnight in the refuge and then up to the peak and back down to Pied-du-Cret the following day.
There was about 5km of hiking on day 1 and 900m ascent!   On Day two, they hiked up to the peak above Vogealle (another 400m ascent) and then down, for a total of 12km that day.
Accompanied by a guide, Saturday started out sunny and warm, but as they hit altitude, a storm came in and the scouts were drenched in cold rain and even HAIL and thunder and lighting!  Sunday was sunny and perfect.
In the refuge the boys played a game of “guess the country” when shown different flags of the world and were treated to a home-made dinner and breakfast offerred by the refuge.
