June 2025 – Sixt-Fer-à-Cheval

Written by Alexander Dzenowagis-Pepke (Scout)

On 14 – 15 June we went camping in the French Alps at Sixt Fer à Cheval. For those who do not know what the Cirque de Fer à Cheval is, it is beautiful, unique geological feature in the French Alps.

After lunch on Saturday we went for a hike along the Giffre river towards Le Bout de Monde (the end of the earth!!). Sometimes it felt like we were hiking to the end of the earth because it was around 30°.

The two patrols split and hiked up different sides of the river and when we met near the top, we bathed in the river and it was very cold. While hiking we did some tests, like knots and if someone got lost or injured. But the most amazing part of it was that there was still snow in the gorgeous mountain range!

Cold but worth it!
Snow in June!

We did cooking in patrols and the food was horrible but we ate it because we were very hungry after the long hike.

Sunday we worked on advancements and merit badges which were very fun. The merit badge was car maintenance.

It was a great surprise to find our Cub Scout Pack 130 was camping across the road from us!

Next year we advise you to come to one of the most beautiful places in France!

A beautiful view

…first aid…
…and orienteering!
