May 2024 – Eco Camp

Written by Sebastien Burgess (Life Scout; Assistant Senior Patrol Leader – Webmaster)

On 25-26 May 2024, we hosted an eco-friendly camp with Troop 681 from Basel.

We started off in Geneva, where the Arve flows into the Rhône, and kayaked/stand-up paddle boarded down the latter river, enjoying serene views, calm water, and the good weather. We played many games on the water which were all great fun, and everyone had a laugh with the appropriately named “big paddle”, an eight-person paddle board. I really enjoyed darting along the river on my kayak.

We navigated down to Satigny, and made our way from there to our campsite, which is one of the Swiss scouts’ locations. We had an eco-friendly cook-off to determine which patrol could cook the best food that was both eco-friendly and tasty, and it must be said that it was close!

The following day, we went volunteering at the Bioparc, which is an animal park in Bellevue. We spent a lot of time helping out, and we really enjoyed it! It’s always nice to give back.

I personally loved this campout, and the idea of an eco camp as a whole. This was just our second one, and it went very well. It was also great to spend time with Troop 681, who we’d had a Historic Trail walk in Geneva with the previous November. It was nice to see them again!
