November-December 2024 – Thanksgiving Weekend

Written by Oscar Burgess (First Class Scout; Outdoor Ethics Guide)

Our traditional Thanksgiving weekend took place once again in the Vallée de Joux. Although there wasn’t much snow, we had a great time from all the fun activities over the weekend. These included outdoor survival exercises to carry “injured” people, team building games involving balls and tarps and a winter walk along the shores of the lake. We also swam in the indoor pool and some scouts earned the the swimming merit badge and others completed the mile swim!

As always, we spent a lot of time preparing and sharing a Thanksgiving meal – turkey with all the trimmings and a delicious vegetarian option too. Puddings were again a highlight, from pecan pie and crumble to tiramisu and cupcakes. Our scouts (and parents) could really show off their culinary skills!

Thanks to our leaders for helping us plan this weekend, and to parents and family members who joined us for this event where we could celebrate and remember all that we are thankful for.
